Teaching Financial Measurement Since 2019
Our mission is to equip individuals with the quantitative tools they need to assess their financial position accurately.
Return HomeOur Story
Anchor Ledger was founded in Kuala Lumpur in January 2019 by a small group of educators and finance professionals who observed a recurring pattern in their consultations. Individuals would arrive with substantial income and savings but lacked a structured way to evaluate whether their financial decisions were sound. They relied on feelings and comparisons with peers rather than measurable criteria.
The founding team recognized that while financial advice services were abundant, few offered education focused on teaching people how to perform their own calculations and comparisons. Most services either provided specific recommendations or aspirational planning without addressing the fundamental numeracy gap. Clients left dependent on advisors rather than capable of independent analysis.
We developed a different model: structured programs that teach participants to use the same quantitative tools that professionals employ. Our approach emphasizes calculation over estimation, comparison over intuition, and measurement over assumption. Each program equips participants with formulas, benchmarks, and templates they can apply to their own situations and continue using after the program concludes.
Since 2019, we have worked with over 800 individuals in the Kuala Lumpur area, teaching them to calculate financial ratios, compare retirement vehicles, and develop preservation strategies. Our participants range from young professionals building their first savings to established individuals managing accumulated resources. What they share is a preference for understanding the numbers themselves rather than relying solely on external guidance.
Our Values
Measurement over opinion: We teach participants to calculate their position using specific formulas rather than accepting vague impressions or subjective assessments.
Comparison over assumption: We provide frameworks for evaluating multiple options side-by-side using consistent criteria rather than selecting based on marketing or hearsay.
Capability over dependence: We equip individuals with tools they can apply independently rather than creating ongoing advisory relationships.
Context over templates: We adapt calculations and benchmarks to Malaysian economic conditions, income patterns, and available financial vehicles rather than applying generic international models.

Our Standards
How we maintain consistency and accuracy in our educational programs.
Current Data Sources
All benchmark tables, product comparisons, and market data are updated quarterly using information from Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia, and published EPF/PRS documentation. Participants receive dated reference materials showing when figures were last verified.
Formula Verification
Every calculation taught in our programs is cross-referenced against professional financial analysis textbooks and verified by our instructors. We provide source citations for formulas and explain the reasoning behind each ratio or metric we teach.
Participant Privacy
Individual financial data used in calculation exercises remains private. Instructors demonstrate methods using example figures during group instruction, and participants work through exercises with their own data independently or with their partner. We never share participant information with third parties.
Instructor Qualifications
All instructors hold relevant professional credentials including accounting qualifications, financial planning certifications, or postgraduate degrees in finance. Each has minimum five years of experience in financial analysis or education before joining our teaching team.
Financial Education Expertise
Anchor Ledger specializes in teaching quantitative methods for personal financial analysis within the Malaysian context. Our curriculum addresses the specific calculation requirements individuals face when evaluating their savings ratios, comparing retirement vehicles like EPF and private schemes, assessing property-heavy portfolios, or developing drawdown protocols for accumulated resources.
We recognize that Malaysia's financial landscape presents distinctive characteristics — mandatory EPF participation, property-focused investment patterns, different tax treatment of various savings vehicles, and specific inflation dynamics that affect preservation strategies. Our programs incorporate these contextual factors into every formula, benchmark, and comparison framework we teach.
The calculation methods we instruct are derived from professional financial analysis practices but adapted for individual application. Participants learn to compute debt-to-income ratios using Malaysian lending standards, evaluate PRS offerings against EPF performance using consistent time horizons, stress-test concentrated property holdings against local market cycles, and structure systematic drawdowns that account for EPF withdrawal rules.
Our educational approach differs from advisory services by emphasizing capability building rather than recommendation provision. Instead of telling participants what their allocation should be or which product to select, we teach them how to perform the calculations themselves, interpret the resulting figures within Malaysian economic conditions, and apply these methods to their evolving financial circumstances long after program completion.
